Bellary: The Bellary district administration has come forward to start a campaign to increase awareness among parents and young voters about ‘moral’ voting. Under this campaign, students will act as ambassadors of moral voting and help increase the voting percentage.
Essays, debate competitions will be held in in education institutions- both schools and colleges and prize-winning students would be trained to create awareness about moral voting
According to the Campaign Committee Head and Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr. K V Rajendra said, “Competitions have been organized in various places before the Voters’ Day itself. But, then we could not involve all schools and colleges. The student ambassadors will be selected for each place soon .”
Meanwhile, as part of a letter campaign, hostel students would write letters to their parents stressing on the importance of their vote and thus creating an awareness among voters not to sell their vote, he said.
“A 75-day programme is being designed to conduct the awareness campaign properly. Every department should conduct the awareness campaign in their surroundings. Responsibility will be assigned to respective staff or officer to conduct the campaign, including at anganwadi, ration shop, Gram Panchayat etc,” he said.
Data has been collected about the physically handicapped and senior citizens in the range of every polling booth. Special help will be provided to them so that they do not keep away from voting, the official added.
