Bengaluru: The tussle between mining barons Anand Singh and Gali Janardhana Reddy resulted in the bifurcation of the iron ore-rich Ballari district. Under the pressure from former MLA of Hospet (Vijayanagara constituency), the state government decided to divide the Ballari district into two.
It can be recalled that both Reddy and Singh are trying to control Balllari district as it is mineral-rich and iron ore mining activities have resumed.
In a note, CM BS Yediyurappa has asked Chief Secretary to present a proposal on Ballari district bifurcation in the next cabinet meeting. Six taluks of the Ballari district including Hosapet, Kudligi, Harapanahalli, Hagaribommanahalli, Kampli and Kottur will be the part of this new district. The new district will be named as Vijayanagara district.
