Ballary: Former deputy superintendent of police Anupama Shenoy on November 1 announced a new party named “Bharathiya Janashakti Congress.”

After offering floral tributes to Mahathma Gandhi’s statue here in Kudligi, Shenoy released the party banner along with Tungabhadra Raitha Sangha President Daroor Purushothama Gowda, Rajashekhara Mulali of Anna Hazare Foundation.

Addressing a gathering, Shenoy said, “People have been expressing displeasure over today’s political system and many such have a leadership quality. So my party will be a platform for them to grow as leaders.”

“I know there is a lot of speculation and many believe that regional parties don’t last long. But I am trying. Our aim is to bring about pro-environment and pro-women policies. My party will aim to bridge the gap between government servants and the people,” she added.

The former DySP of Kudligi in Ballari district, had made a public announcement on October 2, that her party would be launched on Karnataka Rajyotsava (November 1).

In June 2016, Anupama Shenoy had resigned from her post as the DySP of Kudligi. Before resigning, she had visited Yashwant Nagar village in Sandur, where the locals, who were opposing the construction of an iron ore manufacturing unit by a local mining baron, were arrested for allegedly demolishing the compound wall of the unit. Anupama Shenoy had taken the local police officers to task for registering an FIR against the protesters.
