Deadline to return ration cards held by ineligible candidates set to June 30

Ballari: The last date to voluntarily return ration cards held by ineligible candidates are set to June 30. Non compliance will attract legal implications, warned Assistant Director of the Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department Haleema in a press release.

While inspecting list of Antyodaya Rice and Aadyata (BPL) ration cards, it has been observed that families who are ineligible to have BPL ration cards have given false information during the investigation and thus receiving the said BPL ration cards. The last day to return such ration cards was April 15. However, now an extension has been given up to June 30, states the release.

Criteria to return ration card: The permanent employees, employees in government-aided organisations, government-sponsored, government-owned organisations/boards, corporations, and autonomous organisations. Families paying income tax, service tax, VAT, and professional tax. People having more than 3 hectares of dry land or equivalent irrigated land in rural areas. Families in the city or town who own more than 1000 square feet pacca house. The annual income of the family is more than Rs 12,000. Except one who owns a commercial vehicle for seeking a livelihood, i.e. a four-wheeler, tractors, maxicabs, taxis, etc the others who own a four-wheeler are ineligible. One who is living in the same house and having more than one ration card. The family does not live at the address. Those who have not removed the name of the deceased from the ration card/those who have not cancelled the ration card are ineligible, it is stated.

No legal action or penalty will be imposed on anyone who voluntarily submits any ration card during this period. Any complaints by the public in this regard can be lodged to the Food Department with proper documentation and the details of such complaints will be kept confidential, release adds.
