Hospet: The activists of Communist Party of India (CPIM) staged a separate protest against the fuel price hike and burnt down an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, September 10.

Initially, the activists took out a protest rally from Shramika Bhavan to Rotary Circle. Raising slogans against the union government and Narendra Modi, the activists burnt down an effigy of Modi, claiming that “Acche Din” had not come as assured by him.

Later, CPIM leader K Karunanidhi addressing the protesters said, “Though the BJP government had assured of creating jobs for the unemployed youth, it has not delivered so far. However, the leaders of BJP are confident that they would rule the country for the next 50 years. As BJP government failed in fulfilling its own promises, people will teach a befitting lesson to the party in the next election,” he said.

Highlighting the problems of the general public pertaining to the fuel price hike, Karunanidhi said,”Though union government has waived off the loans of corporate companies, it has not been considerate about the poor farmers. The price of fuel has been increasing rapidly. However, the Modi-led union government did not take any strong measures to control the price hike. It clearly shows that the government is against the poor and favouring only the rich people.”

Shedding light on the statistics of farmers’ suicide, another leader Bhaskar Reddy said, ”Over 50,000 farmers committed suicide during the past four and half years in the country. Over 10,000 farmers killed themselves in Maharashtra alone. However, instead of waiving off the loans of farmers, union government is favouring the rich people.”
