CBI quizzes police in Belekeri scam

Bellary: State police personnel are now facing CBI investigation in connection with Belekeri port iron-ore export scam.

Police officials ranging from IPS officers down to traffic constables have been summoned by CBI to its Bangalore office. Police officials who had served during 2009 to 2010 at strategic locations in the  Bellary-Sandur-Hospet mining hub to Belekeri port in Karwar district passing through Koppal, Gadag and Dharwad districts have reportedly been served notices to appear in person before the investigating officer.

According to sources, the CBI has been grilling police officers for five days now, over their suspected collusion with illegal iron-ore export mafia; though many of them subsequently got transferred out of their earlier postings or retired.

Reliable sources say the CBI has so far questioned Ravi Narayan, currently  Additional SP at Davanagere, Sangeetha, additional SP at Bidar, Turai, DySP at Raichur, Babu Kolekar, retired DySP, Vijay Dambal, DySP at Koppal, S S Hullur, CPI at Basavakalyana, Manjunath, CPI at Ullal, Dharmendra, CPI, Devendra, PSI and many other police officers including many constables posted on highway duty.

CBI has so far arrested only one police officer Ramakanth Hullur, who had served as CPI in Sandur, in connection with Belekeri and M/s Deccan Mining Syndicate cases.

Highly placed sources said that a senior IPS officer who had served Bellary is under the CBI scanner, for sleuths suspect he was running a benami iron ore export firm and had exported several crores worth of illicit ore to overseas markets from Belekeri port.
