Sangli/Hospet: In two different road accidents that took place in the morning of October 21, 15 people perished near Sangli in Maharashtra and Hospet in Karnataka.
In the first incident on Saturday wee hours, atleast 11 labourers including five women were killed and 15 sustained grievous injuries after the truck in which they were travelling overturned near Taasgaon-Kawathe Mahakal Highway in Maharashtra’s Sangli.
According to the police, the incident took place at around 4 AM near Yogewadi village on Tasgaon-Kawathe Mahankal Highway after the driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle. Police said that the truck loaded with tiles, was carrying about 25 persons from Vijayapura in Karnataka to Karad in Satara district.
Police added that ten people, who were trapped under the trench, died on the spot while one died during the treatment. Three among 15 who were injured in the accident are stated to be in a serious condition.
Most of the deceased are suspected to be labourers from Karnataka.
Four on the way to attend funeral meet gory end near Hospet
In another incident, four people died on the spot when a lorry crashed into a car near Papinayakanahalli near Hospet.
Car Driver Srinivas (46), Venkatamma (46) and Nalini (30) have been identified as the deceased. The identity of the fourth deceased is not known.
The accident occurred when the residents of Hiriyur in Chitradurga were on their way to attend a relative’s funeral near Hospet.
In all, five including two children injured in the accident were moved to the government hospital in Hospet. Due to unavailability of doctors on account of Deepavali holidays, they were immediately shifted to Koppal General Hospital for further treatment.
