Ballari: In order to save the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and its legacy, around 117 employees of the district have decided to voluntarily retire from their respective posts.
According to reports, around 117 employees out of 300, who are of ages 50 and above, have taken retirement under the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) on Friday, January 31. Even the top officials applied for VRS and retired from their posts.
Now, there are only 123 employees left working in different departments of BSNL in the district.
It can be recalled that earlier, in the Parliament, Union Telecommunication Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had announced the VRS scheme for the employees of BSNL by confirming that the government-owned company was running under a loss, causing a delay in salary payments. He had also announced an attractive retirement package under the scheme. Taking this opportunity, the employees have taken voluntary retirement.
