Mysuru/Belgaum: “Scientific writing is a perfect amalgamation of art and science. Young scientists must develop effective writing skills,” opined Dr. Chandrakant Kokate, Vice Chancellor of KLE University.

Speaking after inaugurating a two-day international workshop on Continuing Medical Education and scientific manuscript writing at the KLE-USM Medical College in Belagavi, he said, “Commitment, sustained efforts, appetite for acquiring newer knowledge and vision for finding truth are the qualities of good researchers. Young scientists across the country are involved in research activities and produce good results. Unfortunately, many of them are failing to present and publish them in international journals. International scientific community is recognising and appreciating high volume of quality research being conducted at Indian Universities.”

He called on the budding scientists to imbibe simple, effective and convincing writing skills with facts and figures. He also stressed the need for developing and registering of patents. “The present atmosphere for research in the country is encouraging and many organisations are offering grants for research. One must utilise funds for their research. The success of the research depends on finding a place in high impact factor international journals”, added Kokate. He also cautioned the participants not to involve in plagiarism and stay away from short cuts in research. The fruits of the research must flow from laboratory to the community for the common good of the community, he added.

“Young researchers must develop a habit of raising scientific questions and quest for knowledge must continue”, said USM-KLE Director Dr. H B Rajasekhar. He also informed that University of Malaysia and KLE will be jointly carrying forward further research in the field of health sciences. Dr. Gan Siew Hua, faculty from Malaysia and Dr. Mohammed Suhaimi, Deputy Dean, USM-KLE conducted scientific sessions. Dr. Ashok Pangi and heads of the departments and over 100 young researchers are taking part in the workshop.
