Belagavi: “If Tipu Jayanti is not celebrated in our state, where else should we?”, questioned State Minister for Women and Child Development Jayamala here on November 13.
She said, “Some people do not want to celebrate such a great person’s birth anniversary who had fought against the British for the country. Killings have always happened in the history when rulers went on conquests.”
“If this becomes a matter of discussion, then I think, all must sit together and sort it out”, she added.
Jayamala also said, “We have studied the history of Tipu from our childhood. The BJP leaders are opposing the birth celebration only with a political motive.”
Speaking on the government’s contribution towards North Karnataka in the upcoming winter session at Belagavi, she said, “We will not show partiality between South and North Karnataka. North Karnataka is like our heart.”
“The previous government and the current coalition government have not let down the expectations of the North Karnataka people. We have allotted sufficient funds for the development of this region”, she added.
Reacting to a question on women’s entry to Sabarimala sanctum, Jayamala said, “I’m fighting for this from past seven years. I’m confident that the next decision by the Apex Court will come in favour of women.”
