Belagavi: After the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act 2019 was passed, a few states saw cases being filed under this new law. Now, a case has been filed in Karnataka.
The first case in the state under the new law has been filed in the Savadatti police station of the Belagavi district.
Bibi Ayisha, a resident of the Yakkundi village of the Savadatti taluk lodged a case against her husband Ismail Khan Patan under this act.
In her complaint, she alleged that her husband, Patan, a resident of Goa, issued her a triple talaq through registered post.
“He is trying to divorce me by falsely claiming that I have some diseases,” she charged.
The police have registered a case under section 4 of the new act.
