Belagavi: Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation (SWEEP), Belagavi district committee constituted by the Election Commission, launched the logo for the awareness of Karnataka state Assembly elections 2018 with a tagline “Inclusive, Accessible and Ethical Elections” on February 21.

After unveiling the logo, President of Belagavi district SWEEP committee, Zilla Panchayat CEO R Ramachandran said, “The tagline indicates that the youth who have completed 18 years of age should actively participate in voting, make it accessible to old age, handicapped for voting and to conduct free and fair elections.”

He further said, “Previous Assembly elections had reported 74 percent voting in Belagavi district. Thus this time, the committee has created various awareness drives among people to increase the voting. The voter sensitising programmes are organised at the polling booths which have reported below 40 percent voting last time. This Assembly election is a big festival of democracy. I request every voter to actively participate and make it a big success.”

Alok Kumar, IGP (Northern Range) said, “Voting percent in north Indian states is above 90 percent. We are also trying to make it above 90 percent in Karnataka this time. According to the EC guidelines, the police officers of PSI rank have been transferred. The higher rank officers will be transferred by senior officers. Once the model code of conduct is announced, police will take action against persons luring voters. Action will be taken if specific complaints of luring voters is given”, he said.
