Belagavi: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Friday, July 6, took youths from Halaga Bastwad villages of Belagavi for questioning in connection with the murder of journalist Gowri Lankesh.
Sources confirmed that the SIT had returned to Belagavi to investigate whether any other youth helped Parashuram Waghmore, a key accused in the case, for killing the journalist.
The SIT had brought Vaghmore to Belagavi about 20 days ago and spent a whole day in Khanapur and Belagavi to find the places where he was trained to use weapons.
It is gathered that the SIT is now investigating to ascertain the identity of the person from Bastwad village who supplied the SIM card to Waghmore. The team also gathered information about youths who sheltered Vaghmore when he was undergoing weapons training in Belagavi, claimed sources.
It has come to light that the accused youth fled from the village soon after the SIT started the inquiry into the involvement of Waghmore in the murder. The SIT is on a lookout for the absconding youth by gathering information from people who knew them well.
