Belagavi: Former chief minister Siddramaiah has urged the state government to release the relief funds in order to construct houses and for immediate relief.
Addressing a protest led by the Congress party against the Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa-led government’s failure to release adequate flood relief funds on Tuesday, September 24, he said, “The state government must release Rs 1 lakh as immediate relief instead of Rs 10,000. Rs 10 lakh should be released for the construction of houses for the flood victims.”
Lashing out at CM BSY’s government, Siddaramaiah said, “The state has witnessed one of the worst floods in its history and the state government has failed miserably in stabilizing the situation. The floods have affected around 22 districts, leaving around eight lakh people displaced and around 2.50 lakh families homeless. Hectares of agricultural land have been devastated and many have died.”
“The farmers are yet again facing the issue of farm loans, due to which many have committed suicide. The state government has not taken any of this into serious consideration,” he added.
Meanwhile, mocking CM BSY, he said, “I’ve implemented many pro-people and pro-farmer schemes like ‘Anna Bhagya’ and farmer loan-waivers. What has happened to CM BSY who keeps saying that he is a ‘farmer’s son’?”
