Belgaum: The district authorities have clamped prohibitory orders u/s 144 in Belgaum, Khanapur and Nippani after the lathi charge in Yellur on Sunday July 27 until Tuesday July 29 midnight.

Hemant Nimbalkar, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Bangalore, has been roped in by the state government to look into this issue of violence after the board was removed by the police for the second time.

The police version says that 18 constables and 7 others were injured in the lathi charge and stone pelting by the locals.

Nimbalkar inspected the damage allegedly caused by the police during the lathi-charge, including damage to doors and windows of some houses. Visuals on TV channels showed that police broke the doors of houses and entered inside. A woman complained that her two-month-old baby was hit by a stone.

Bus service between Karnataka and Maharashtra was suspended after some miscreants hurled stones on a KSRTC bus near Kognolli village on Sunday morning. MSRTC has also suspended services.

Nimbalkar also stated that there were a lot of rumors of a bandh call however we could not get a confirmation on the same.
