Belagavi: Members of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike on Monday, paraded an effigy of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on a deathbed on the streets all the while shouting: “We will fight till the end.”
This development comes after the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office tweeted, “Bringing back all the Marathi-speaking and culturally Maharashtrian areas that have been occupied by Karnataka back into Maharashtra is the only tribute to those who have attained martyrdom in the border dispute fight. We are united and committed to this cause. We bow down to the martyrs with this promise.”
The agitators were gathered at the Channamma Circle, where they laid the effigy down along with some photographs of the Maharashtra CM. Many beat the effigy with slippers while shouting slogans like “We stand united” after which they set the photos ablaze.
According to a report by TNM, during a press conference, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike president Praveen Shetty condemned the statements made by Thackeray and Maharashtra Minister for Urban Development and Public Works, Eknath Shinde saying, “Kannadigas will not sit quietly. It is impossible for any fool to try and occupy even a single inch of our land. If you even try to take our three districts, you will see the bloodshed of thousands of Marathis.”
It can be recalled that leaders cutting across political lines in Karnataka, including Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa slammed Thackeray’s tweet.
