Belagavi: The Excise officials of Karnataka-Goa-Maharashtra have enhanced their vigil in a bid to stop illegal transport of liquor to the election-bound Karnataka. In two separate cases, the sleuths raided and seized 20 litres being smuggled in from Goa. The value of the total seizure is estimated at Rs 5,50,000.
The Excise Department check-posts at Karnataka-Maharashtra boundary and Karnataka-Goa Boundary are leaving no stone unturned to check the illegal transportation of alcohol during elections.In just eight days, this is the second case of liquor seizure at Karnataka-Maharashtra boundary.
The Excise officials, under the guidance of Joint Commissioner of Excise, Belagavi divisions, raided two different locations and seized a Honda City car and a Honda Aviator bike smuggling 20 ltrs of Goa liquor and arrested three persons in two different cases, District Returning Officer S Ziaullah said.
Cases have been booked in the Hukkeri range.
