Belagavi: Following footsteps of the Hubballi-Dharwad police, even the Belagavi police commissionarate has decided to enforce the new rule ‘No Helmet-No petrol’ in Belagavi city. The new rule will be in place from Wednesday, February 21. Under this rule any two-wheeler rider not wearing helmet will be denied petrol in the petrol bunks.

Deputy Commissioner of Police(Law and order) Seema Latkar, Traffic ACP Muppinmath held a special meeting in this regard with the owners of petrol bunks in city in this regard and sought their co-operation in this regard.

However, when the Belagavi police shared the news on social media, they were out for a rude shock. Most netizens trolled the police for the proposed rule and expressed their opposition to the same.

“Why don’t you start the same rule for auto drivers who run autos without meters and extort gullible commuters, ” asked a netizens.
Hubbali-Dharwad police have planned to introduce the rule from February 22, but from an outset it so seems that even their plans may be dashed with many from the legal fraternity questioning the legality of the rule. They have said that one or two petrol pump owners can opt to follow the rule but if all do the same, it means they have been pressurised to do so.
