Belagavi: Naganoora Rudrakshi Math’s Seer Siddarama Swamiji has said that a delegation would be taken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to convince him regarding the independence of the Lingayat religion.

Addressing a press conference, the seer warned that if the union government failed to fulfill their demand, it would face the consequences in the forthcoming Loka Sabha elections in 2019. The BJP may have to face opposition from the majority community in the state, he said.

“The recommendation of the state government is in the court of the central government. As an attempt to mute the agitation, rumours are being spread with the help of Veerashaiva followers. The struggle will continue”, the seer said.

“If the central government returns the recommendation, we will seek justice in the Supreme Court. So, I hope the union government will not dare to return it”, he added.

Meanwhile, he claimed that statistics said that the Congress’ support for a separate Lingayat religion benefitted them in the Assembly election. He demanded that the party leaders and select seniors of the society like M B Patil and Basavaraja Horatti for the cabinet berth.
