Belagavi: The ongoing agitations over the implementation of the crucial Kalasa-Banduri Canal project and Mahadayi row will be settled only if prime minster Narendra Modi intervenes, said Ex-Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chouhan.
Speaking to media persons at Benadi village in Chikodi taluk, the senior Congress leader said, “Modi should take a personal interest and solve the matter as the dispute is related to drinking water. He should hold a meeting with three chief ministers of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa and settle the matter outside the tribunal.”
“Water is getting wasted by flowing into the sea and it should be diverted towards Karnataka and join the Malaprabha River. Like other states, Karnataka is also facing an acute water shortage for which the rivers must be joined.”
He added that during his tenure as the chief minister, Maharashtra had taken the decision of connecting the canal to the Kalasa-Banduri Nala.
He also said that the chief ministers of Goa and Maharashtra must put in sincere attempts to give water to Karnataka by allowing it to complete the project.
To solve the crucial row at the earliest, chief minister Siddaramaiah must take a delegation of his Goa and Maharashtra counterparts to Modi.
