Belagavi: The Congress party ahead of the crucial MLC polls on Sunday distributed food for the members of taluk and gram panchayats who are eligible to vote in the polls thereby violating the model code of conduct, according to reports.
The breakfast and lunch was served when the leaders of the party were apparently campaigning for the sitting MLC Veerkumar Patil at the CPEd ground here.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Home Minister G Parameshwara, RDPR Minister H K Patil, Small Scale Industries and District in-charge minister Satish Jarkiholi and Chikodi MP Prakash Hukkeri canvassed for the party’s candidate.
It is learnt that senior officials were present during the campaign but did not stop them from violating the code of conduct.
Deputy Commissioner N Jayaram, when asked about the matter, said that he was unaware that food was distributed at the event. He also assured that he would instruct the officials concerned to take necessary action if the violation of model of conduct has really taken place.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amarnath Reddy, who was monitoring security at the event, said he would take action if a complaint is filed.
