Belagavi: To create awareness among people against superstition, Karnataka Excise Minister Satish Jarkiholi has planned a mega event at Sadashivanagar graveyard in Belagavi on December 6.
Several noted writers, thinkers and historians from different parts of the country are set to attend the event which is being held to mark the death anniversary of Dr B.R. Ambedkar. Large number of people from all 30 districts of Karnataka likely to take part in the event.
Speaking to media persons, Minister said, “Participants in the programme will not only attend seminars, workshops and lectures to be held round-the-clock on December 6 but will also have their meals and sleep at the graveyard. The objective of the event is to fight against rising blind beliefs and practices which are hampering the growth of a healthy society,” says Jarkiholi.
“An awareness rally from every district will be taken out starting from November 26 which will culminate at Sadashivanagar graveyard on December 5 night. People from many NGOs and other organisations in all the districts have decided to take part in the anti-superstition rally,” said Jarkiholi.
“A team of progressive writers and thinkers will attempt to give a new direction to society through their lectures against superstition. The attempts being made to perpetrate atrocities on people by way of superstition should have to be stopped by launching effective campaigns on a regular basis. Hence similar programmes will be held on December 6 every year by inviting celebrated litterateurs and progressive thinkers from different parts of the country to the graveyard”, Minister added.
