Belagavi: As some of the northern states like Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Mumbai have been hit bad by floods, some parts of Karnataka are also in danger. The Maharashtra-Karnataka border region has been prone to some of the worst floods seen in the recent past. Because of dams exceeding their capacity in Maharashtra, a humongous amount of water has been released to the river Krishna, which has resulted in terrible floods in the Chikkodi town.

As the monsoons are already in full swing in Maharashtra, the border areas are on high alert and heavy rainfalls have been predicted. As a result of this, the Belagavi district administration has cautioned the residents of around 76 villages about the possible floods.

On one hand, towns such as Chikkodi, Raybag, Athani and 37 other villages in the area have been badly hit by floods as rivers Krishna, Vedganga, Panchganga and Dudhganga are swelling above the danger line. On the other hand, around 39 villages have been partially impacted.

Ganji Kendra and evacuation centres have already been identified in case an emergency situation arises.

Assistant Commissioner of Chikkodi, Ravi Karilinganna has requested the people to inform the concerned officials about any emergencies.

He has requested the villagers not to try and cross the bridges which are already on the verge of getting submerged. He has also asked them to evacuate to safe zones as identified by the district administration.
