Belagavi: At least five persons were killed in a ghastly accident between a lorry and a Bolero on National Highway-4 in the outskirts of Nippani town in Chikkodi Taluk on Monday, June 25.
The driver of the Bolero, transporting vegetables from Gataprabha in Gokak Taluk to Kolhapur in Maharastra, lost control of the vehicle and jumped the divider straight into the oncoming traffic. It then smashed head-on into the Mini truck which was travelling from Kolhapur to Bengaluru.
The impact of the collision was so strong that Ramesh, Nadeem, Raju, Ahmed and Shabbir died on the spot. The cleaner of truck Anand has been admitted to a private hospital in Kolhapur. Two more injured have been admitted to another Kolhapur hospital.
Nippani Town Police have registered a case.
