Belgaum :The water level in River Krishna and its tributaries in Belgaum district rose alarmingly on Friday, compelling farmers on the river bank to shift to safer places.
As much as 2.55 lakh cusecs of water has been released into the river from the reservoirs in Maharashtra.
Vast tracts of land with standing crops of soya, sugar cane and vegetables, have been inundated.
As many as nine bridges are under water.
Deputy Commissioner N Jayaram said that boats have been supplied to 90 villages in Chikodi sub-division to move to safer places during emergency.
A 26-year-old farmer was washed away in River Krishna in Ankali village of Chikodi taluk. The body of Sadashiva Kamathe is yet to be traced, police said.
Uttara Kannada
A swollen River Varada inundated more than 1,000 acre of farmland near Banavasi in Sirsi taluk of Uttara Kannada district.
Ajjarani bridge continued to remain under water for the fourth day.
Shimoga
Intermittent rain lashed several parts of the district on Friday. Most parts of the district received good spell of rain in the morning.
Land slide was reported at Baise village in Hosanagar taluk. With River Varada in spate, there was no let up in flood-like situation at Beesanagadde village in Sagar taluk.
In the last 24 hours, Yadur received the highest rainfall of 172 mm, followed by Mastikatte (145 mm), Hulikal (139 mm), Mani (136 mm) and Agumbe (102 mm).
The water levels in various dams witnessed slight rise. The water level in Linganamakki rose to 1783.30 feet against the maximum level of 1819 feet as the catchment area of the dam received rainfall of 73.40mm.
The inflow of water was 43035 cusecs.
Madikeri
Heavy rains that lashed across Kodagu for the last few days receded on Friday.
The intensity of rain reduced in Madikeri, Somwarpet, Virajpet, Kushalnagar and Kutta.
The water level in Harangi reservoir stood at 2855.84 feet. Rain receded in Mangalore and Udupi too.
Water released to TN
As much as 12,000 cusecs of water is being released to Tamil Nadu from Krishnaraja Sagara?reservoir.
The water level in the reservoir stood at 110.80 feet against the maximum of 124.80 feet.
