Belagavi: “When the government is going to trifurcate BBMP, why not the state on the same lines?” agitated former minister Umesh Katti renewing the separate statehood demand for North Karnataka.

Katti urged chief minister Siddaramaiah to convene a special legislature session and announce North Karnataka as a separate state.  The Siddaramaiah-led government has ignored the development of the region, alleged Katti.”

He alleged that the government is trying to silence Congress leaders who back the demand for separate statehood thus a meeting has been called in Bagalkot on Monday to discuss measures to achieve separate statehood, he informed.

On the other hand the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee is set to take disciplinary action against party legislator A S Patil Nadahalli for raising the demand for a separate north Karnataka state.

State party president G Parameshwara has stressed that the demand for a separate statehood for north Karnataka region is unwarranted.

Parameshwara said, “Those who are raising this issue should better severe their relationship with the party. We will not tolerate anybody within the party if they take an anti-party stand.”
