Belagavi: Tensions have begun to rise in the BJP’s state unit as MLA Raju Kage has openly warned the party leaders that if he is not given a ticket to contest in the upcoming by-polls, he will join the Congress.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, October 29, he said, “I will definitely contest in the upcoming by-polls. I’m okay with either the Athani or Kagawad Assembly constituencies. If the BJP leaders deny me a ticket, then I’ll join the Congress. As Kagavad MLA Shrimant Patil from the Congress has been disqualified, I’ll contest with a Congress ticket from that constituency, if not from Athani.”

“I have not been to the meeting organized by the BJP leaders at Hubbali, but my supporters and party workers had been there. They have pressurized the leaders to give me a ticket,” he added.

Further he said, “Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has said that he would not give a ticket to Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi to contest from Athani nor to me. He has clearly said that it is the decision taken by the party’s high command.”

It can be recalled that disqualified MLA Shrimant Patil, formerly of the Congress party, had defeated Raju Kage in the 2018 Assembly election with a margin of 50, 118 votes.
