Belagavi: Four people were killed on the spot as an ambulance hit two vehicles near Chachadi cross on the Belagavi-Bagalkot state highway on Sunday.
A total of 27 others were injured.
The deceased were with a patient in an ambulance. The ambulance driver and patient are unhurt.
The deceased have been identified as Mahadev Nyamagoudar (40) of Kannalli village, Bagalkot district; Nagesh Rachappa Palalagi (40), Basavva Basappa Guggari (50) and Kamalavva Basalingappa Guggari (45), all residents of Koluru village, Beelagi taluk, Bagalkot district.
Yallappa Didagannavar and Yallappa Harugopp, who were travelling in the TATA Ace, sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment at KLES Hospital. They were going to attend some rituals in Murakibavi village of Bailhongal taluk.
The ambulance, which was going towards Belagavi from Jamakhandi, hit a TATA Ace from behind and then crashed into a truck.
The impact was such that the TATA Ace overturned twice and fell into a nearby canal.
Some of the other injured were shifted to the district hospital.
