Chikkodi: Former MLA of Chikkodi died in a road mishap on Friday, December 28.
The deceased is Dattu Hakyagola (70). It is said that the two-wheeler on which the former MLA was plying hit a lorry on Pune-Bengaluru NH-4 killing him on the spot.
Hakyagola had represented Chikkodi in the state Assembly in 2004.
It was on December 9, just around the Belagavi winter session that Hakyagola had sent out a warning to the state government to declare Chikkodi as a district within four days, failing which he would commit suicide. He had been on the forefront of the fight for district-status for Chikkodi.
