Belagavi: In an attempt to garner support for the party, BJP National President Amit Shah, on April 13, urged the voters to fight against the “corrupt” Congress government.

Speaking to the audience after paying homage to the tomb of Sangolli Rayanna in Nandgad of Khanapur Taluk, Shah said that people should fight against the “corrupt” Congress government the way legendary Kittur Rani Chennamma fought against the British.

Asking the voters to support Yeddyurappa, Shah further said, “Rani Channamma who belonged to the Lingayat community and Sangolli Rayanna of the Kuruba community united to fight against the corrupt British government. It is now the time to unite and fight against the corrupt Congress government.” He also alleged that Congress government was involved in plundering the state treasury and utilising the loot to fund party work.

The BJP president also visited Gokak Constituency, where Congress has a strong presence, and participated in a road show. This was the first time that a BJP national leader has visited Gokak. Surprisingly, more than 20,000 supporters attended the road show. At the road show, Shah revealed that Ashok Pujari would contest from Gokak and asked the voters to elect him.
