Belagavi: With the intent of training police personnel to crack modern-day crimes faster, the state government is envisaging setting up of an university exclusively for improving and inculcating modern methods of police investigation said state Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy.

He was responding to a query raised by Tara Anuradha from BJP in the Legislative Council on Thursday regarding the use of traditional methods by the police personnel while investigating crimes.

“A proposal to this effect would be announced in the State Budget 2018-19.The home department is also spending Rs 80 crore for upgrading the forensic science laboratory in Bengaluru,” he added.

The proposed varsity would impart training to officers of different ranks and will majorly focus on modern crime detection technology to overcome the delay witnessed in cracking cases at present.

Various modalities with regard to setting up of the varsity such as its name, location, funds required, selection of faculty etc are yet to be finalised.
