Sangli: The Maharashtra police, late on Monday night arrested a doctor from Belagavi, Karnataka, in connection with abortion racket case in Sangli district of Maharashtra. The accused is identified as doctor Babasaheb Khidrapure, a homeopath and the man behind killing of several female feotuses. He has now been remanded to police custody.
Death of a 26-year-old pregnant woman on February 28 during abortion blew the lid off the abortion racket. The probe had brought the police to a stream in Mhaisal village where they unearthed 19 aborted female foetuses on Sunday.
The locals said that the woman had died during abortion at the private hospital of Dr Babasaheb Khidrapure in the village.
It is said that the woman’s husband wanted the pregnancy terminated as he had found that the foetus was a girl. Hence the 26-year-old pregnant woman was brought to Dr Khidrapure despite opposition from the woman’s father.
Further investigations are on.
