Belagavi: In a big victory to the major irrigation minister DK Shivakumar, he successfully convinced the agitating sugarcane growers to withdraw their strike. It can be recalled that the Belagavi farmers even gate-crashed Suvarna Vidhana Soudha demanding fair price to sugarcane they supplied to the sugar factories of the district.
These sugarcane farmers were holding a fast unto death protest in front of the DC’s office since last four days. District in-charge minister, bite Noire of DKS, municipal administration minister Ramesh Jarakiholi failed to break the deadlock.
DKS who arrived at the city in the morning met the agitators and held an hour-long talk. He assured them that he will ensure a fair price for all the farmers in next 15 days. After his assurance farmers ended their fast by drinking coconut water.
District in-charge minister Ramesh Jarakiholi was not present at the time of the meeting.
It can be recalled that this protest had created an embarrassing situation for CM HDK and ruling coalition.
