Belagavi: Senior officials of the state forest department rushed to Khanapura in Belagavi district following the discovery of four dead tigers inside the Mahadayi Reserve Forest bordering Belagavi and Uttar Kannada districts. It is for the first time in the history of the state that the carcass of four tigers were found at one time.

According to sources, these caracas were recovered from Satteri in Khanapura. Among the dead animals, three are tigresses while another is a male tiger.

Sources also said that police in the neighbouring state of Goa had detained three persons in connections with the incident. The tigers have been suspected to be poisoned because they were attacking cow herds inside the forest.
