Belagavi: Belagavi South MLA Abhay Patil staged a sit-in at the West Gate of Suvarna Vidhana Soudha on Friday, who was later joined by Belagavi North MLA Anil Benke. The MLAs protested over rejection of a private member’s bill during the session on the development of Belagavi.
Patil, on Thursday, December 13, wanted to present a private member’s bill seeking the establishment of IT Park along the Pune-Bengaluru national highway wherein 744 acres of land was available. He also wanted the government to create replicas of people who made invaluable contributions towards nation building, including freedom fighters and scientists, in Mache village near Belagavi. But the legislator was not allowed to present the Bill.
Patil questioned the logical basis behind holding the winter session of the state legislature in Belagavi when there is no time to listen to the grievances of the region.
Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly B S Yeddyurappa visited the protest site and informed the legislators that Speaker Ramesh Kumar had given assurance to him of providing time for Patil to table the bill in a few days. Patil and Benke stopped the protest after Yeddyurappa told them about the Speaker’s assurance.
