Belagavi: Condemning police harassment and with the demand for hike in fare auto drivers have been on strike since Friday.
A meeting of the Auto Rickshaw association with the DC N Jayaram and the city police commissioner S Ravi on Monday evening has not yielded any results.
Auto drivers have decided to continue the strike and submit a memorandum to CM Siddaramaiah, who will be visiting the city on Tuesday.
Various auto drivers’ associations, which gathered at the premises of Kannada Sahitya Bhavan decided to continue the strike.
During the meeting the commissioner said that, as per the demand of auto drivers, maxi cabs have been banned from entering the city. Administration is ready to revise fares after consulting road transport department. But before that, the administration is expecting mandatory installation of meters from auto drivers which is not even 10% in city, he said.
Auto strike has put the commuters, especially outsiders into inconvenience. This has also created problem for school children, who travel by autos.
However, district administration has facilitated extra buses in city through NWKRTC to reduce public inconvenience.
