Belagavi: A racket of stealing parked vehicles by duplicate keys was busted by Athani police recently, and over 50 robbed motorbikes were recovered.
The team led by PSI (Crime) A G Chavan arrested three people from Vijayapur district – identified as- Chaitanya Siddappa Kalyani (22) and Ramanagouda Goudappagouda Patil (25) from Utnal in Basavan Bagewadi taluk and Ameenuddin Davalsab Donoor (26) of Dindawad village of same taluk.
According to the reports the culprits were riding rash on Kagwad- Athani Road, when the police noticed them and asked to stop the bike. On inspection the culprits admitted the offence of stealing.
Police sources said during the interrogation, accused confessed about stealing bikes in Athani, Jamkhandi, Kaladagi, Nargund, Navalgund, Yadgiri, Surpur, Kalburgi. They also admitted of stealing bikes in Solapur, Jat and Sangli towns of Maharashtra. Accused used to sell bikes without valid papers in the villages surrounding Yadgir, Surpur and Basavan Bagewadi towns and spending the money on their expensive habits like drinking and gambling.
Operation was conducted in the guidance of DySP B S Angadi and CPI Rajashekhar Badadesai. SP Ravikanthe Gowda has congratulated the team.
