With no parking space, seized autos become headache for B’luru traffic cops

Bengaluru: A special drive conducted by the Bengaluru North Division Traffic Police to crackdown on auto rickshaws found violating the rules has surprisingly turned into a headache for them. The police are now faced with a strange dilemma since they dont have the space to park the 47 autos seized during the drive.

The police checked more than 1,000 auto rickshaws in Malleshwaram, Rajajinagara, Yashwantapuram, Jalahalli, and Peenya traffic police station limits. Cases were registered against 113 auto drivers for peeking extra money from passengers, 122 drivers for refusing to take passengers and various other charges. Among these, 47 autos, that had either broken the rules multiple times or were facing serious allegations were seized.

Since these autos were seized at once, the police did not have adquate space to park them and ended up parking them on both sides of the under bridge in front of Malleshwaram station. Few autos were parked in front of Rajajinagar station as well. Though few auto drivers paid fine and got their autos back next day morning, many were still there until night.

“We walk through the ridge near K C General Hospital every day to the office. The police park the seized vehicles beside the road which pose an inconvenience to us. If we question them, they say there is no other space. It is an irritation for us daily,” said a pedestrian. Though the traffic police agreed to this, they claim to have no other option.
