Bengaluru: Hours after state Assembly Speaker Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri announced that private television channels will be banned from covering the House proceedings, the Chief Minister assured that he would ask the former to reconsider.
It can be recalled that the three-day winter session of the state Assembly will begin today. As per the Speaker’s order, only Doordarshan’s cameras will be allowed inside the House to cover the session.
Taking to Twitter after the Speaker’s announcement, CM B S Yediyurappa wrote: “My government is always committed to freedom of media. I will make a sincere effort and request speaker Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri to reconsider his decision on barring media from telecasting the house proceedings.”
Meanwhile, ministers have begun arrive at the Vidhana Soudha for the first of the three-day session.
Just yesterday, Siddaramaiah was selected to be the Opposition leader in the Assembly.
