Mangaluru: Congress leader Mithun Rai has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against Kerala High Court’s order stating that the centre must intervene and clear the border blockade erected between Kerala and Karnataka border area of Dakshina Kannada district.

The Congress leader, who tasted defeat in the Lok Sabha Elections from Dakshina Kannada constituency in 2019 has asked: “Why are we interested in digging our own graves?”

The petition is likely to be taken up for hearing by a bench of L Nageshwara Rao and Deepak Gupta on Friday.

“I have filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court of India – Civil Appelette Juridistiction through my Counsel Mr Anand Sanjay Nuli, Senior Advocate of SC against the order of HC of Kerala for opening the Karnataka Kasargod Border,” stated Rai in one of the tweets on Thursday evening.

“This is not done as people in Karnataka as well as in Kerala are very much aware of the facts that the pandemic has been getting spread through the people traveling from Kerala to Karnataka through Mangalore. Then why are we interested in digging our own graves !!!” he added.

Rai opined that Kerala is quite a developed State and has all the necessary medical facilities.

“So the Border has to be immediately closed and we cannot let our people suffer knowing the current scenario !This is for a cause , and I will stand by this no matter what and fight against the wrong to any extent to save my people of Mangalore and our State,” he added.

At least seven people have died from Manjeswaram of Kasaragod district after Karnataka closed its borders amid the lockdown.
