Bengaluru: Though election gave him lemons, State PWD Minister H D Revanna doesn’t seem to have given up on his ‘beliefs.’ He arrived barefoot at the Karnataka Assembly on Thursday, July 18, the day for the trust-vote by the state Congess-Janata Dal (Secular) coalition.
Revanna walked barefoot into the Assembly wearing white shirt and white lungi to attend the floor test of the state government.
Not seeming to have been disheartened by the Lok Sabha poll results, he has progressed from ‘lemons’ and numerology only to barefoot attendance in the floor test to save the JD(S)-Congress coalition in tatters due to the resignation of more than 10 dissident MLA s from the cabinet.
Meanwhile, Revanna and his brother and Chief Minister H D Kumarasamy on July 17, paid a visit to the Shringeri Shankar Matt at Shankarapuram following the Supreme Court verdict on a plea filed by 10 rebel MLAs that held that Karnataka Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar cannot be compelled to take a decision within a set deadline on the resignations of the rebel MLAs.
All the senior leaders of BJP, Congress and JD(S) including Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, BJP state chief B S Yeddyurappa and Congress leader Siddaramaiah were present at Vidhana Soudha for the ‘vote of confidence’ motion today. All the 37 MLAs of JD(S) including three rebel legislators Narayana Gowda, Gopalaiah and H Vishwanath were given a whip by Kumaraswamy on July 17 to be present in the Assembly at the time of the floor test.
The MLAs were warned of action under Anti-Defection Law and disqualification from their posts following failure to attend the House and voting against
the party whip even after attending the session.
The 13-month-old Congress-JDS government is in soup due to the resignation of MLAs.
