Bengaluru: In a major development in the Gauri Lankesh murder case, accused Parashuram Waghmare has confessed to having shot at the journalist, activist allegedly angered by her anti-Hindu stance.

While his confession comes as a morale-booster for the SIT team probing the murder case, for over nine months now much-needed pieces of evidence – the gun and the bike used to carry out the murder have to be seized in order to strengthen its case against the accused. The person riding the bike on that fateful day is also to be identified yet as also all the persons involved in the murder. Initial investigations, however, indicate towards the role of pro-Hindu organization in the murder but concrete evidence is yet to be found.

Reportedly, Waghmare in his confession to the SIT said that he was irked by the foul language that Lankesh used while speaking about Hindutva and Hindu gods. He also stated that the murder weapon is not in his possession as he gave it to some other person but claimed to have forgotten his identity. Though Waghmare is said to have remained hostile during the initial stages of investigation he confessed to his doing after being subjected to repeated questioning.

Furthermore, he also revealed that as per the initial plans, Girish Karnad’s name figured ahead of Gauri but owing to some reasons that plan was not executed and Gauri was murdered instead. Among the other name that he said were on the target list of those who planned this gruesome act are K S Bhagwan, B T Lalita Nayak, Veerabhadra Chennamalla Swamiji of Nidumamidi Math and few other rationalists.

Muthalik, Waghmare spotted together in a pic

Meanwhile, a fresh controversy has erupted after a picture of the accused with Sri Rama Sene chief Pramod Muthalik has been going viral over the social media.

Muthalik, however, has denied knowing Waghmare and has claimed that he( Waghmare) would probably be among the many who want to pose with him for a photograph since he is a known figure, especially as one who works to safeguard the Hindu religion and culture.

A picture with the accused is no proof of a relationship or acquaintance with him, said the Sene chief.
