Voters have lost by re-electing disqualified MLAs: Nikhil Kumaraswamy

Bengaluru: Sandalwood actor and son of former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, Nikhil Kumaraswamy has asked the people of the state what sin his father had committed for being given such a poor mandate in the recently concluded Assembly by-polls.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, December 11, he asked, “What mistake or sin did former CM HDK commit for the people to give such a mandate? The mandate given to the JD(S) is a shocker. He kept his promise when it came to the farm loan waiver and waived off the loans of 22, 000 farmers in Mandya’s K R Pet alone.”

“The electorates of the disqualified MLAs’ constituencies had said that, they would teach them a lesson for playing ‘back door politics’ and also said that they would remain disqualified. But shockingly, they have made them victorious. This is a loss for the electorates themselves. Nevertheless, I accept the mandate,” he added.

Accusing the BJP of using ‘Operation Lotus’ on the formerly disqualified MLAs he said, “Our party does not have enough money to pull voters to our side. The people have seen the political drama that took place in Mumbai of the 17 then disqualified MLAs. Politics is just like a flowing stream. We too have a lot of opportunities in the future. Our next goal is to strengthen our party.”

It can be recalled that the JD(S)’ candidates in three constituencies – Yellapur, K R Pura, and Ranebennur – were defeated miserably in the recently concluded Assembly by-polls in 15 segments. Election reports had even revealed that in all these three constituencies, NOTA received more votes than the JD(S).
