Bengaluru: Veteran actress S K Padmadevi, who had begun her cinema journey through first Kannada talkie movie titled “Bhaktha Dhruva” of 1934, has passed away at the age of 95, due to age-related ailments.
Her last rites will be performed after her grandson reaches their native place from Singapore.
Padmadevi had spoken to her grandson on Wednesday through video calling.
Born in the year 1924, Padmadevi had begun her acting journey as a theatre artist under Ballari Raghuvacharya. She had also acted in H A L Simha’s theatre company, where she had got several dramas as female lead. She was inclined to theatre than cinemas.
She had served Akashavani (All India Radio) for several years and has acted in movies like ‘Mukthi’, ‘Amara Madhura Prema’, ‘Sankranti’, ‘Vasantasena’, ‘Jataka Phala’ and other Telugu and Tamil movies.
Padmadevi had created her own theatre organization too.
