Bengaluru: After meeting Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala, the Congress party has withdrawn its protest in the state assembly against BJP lawmaker Basanagowda Patil Yatnal’s statements about veteran freedom fighter HS Doreswamy.
This decision has been taken by the Congress legislature party president and former CM Siddaramaiah.
After meeting the Governor at Rajbhavan along with the party lawmakers, Siddaramaiah announced that the protest will be withdrawn inside the House.
‘We communicated our concerns to the Governor. He assured us that he will be looking into it. “Keeping in mind the interest of the state, and debates concerning developmental issues, we have decided not to continue the protest,” he said.
Siddaramaiah also stated that the party will not allow anyone to carry out a communal agenda in the state. “We will not allow anyone to implement their hidden agendas,” he said.
It can be recalled that the Congress party had been holding a protest inside the Assembly, seeking an apology from BJP MLA Yatnal for his statements against Doreswamy, a highly respected freedom fighter.
