Bengaluru: JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda on Tuesday, May 22 called Shiv Sena chairperson Uddhav Thackeray and invited him for the swearing-in ceremony of HD Kumaraswamy, as per media reports.

Uddhav congratulated Deve Gowda but conveyed his apologies for not being able to attend the ceremony, as his party was preparing for the Lok Sabha bypolls in Palghar, Maharashtra.

Another prominent leader who will be skipping the ceremony is the DMK’s M K Stalin. Stalin, who was also expected to be present in a bid by the opposition to show their burgeoning consolidation against the BJP has cancelled his Bengaluru visit. He has chosen to instead head for Thoothukudi (Tuticorin) in Tamil Nadu where nine anti-Sterlite protesters were killed in a police firing on Tuesday.
