Bengaluru: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister U T Khader said that the Karnataka state government is planning to install metal gates and surveillance cameras on the roads leading to and from the border with Kerala, along the coastal area, to stop illegal transport of sand, drugs and to stop vehicle theft.
Speaking to reporters, the minister said, “The gates and the CCTV cameras will help in regulating the sand and drug mafia. It is yet to be decided by the government, whether to deploy police or home guards at the border along with the CCTV.”
Khader said that the CCTV cameras installed will record the movement of every vehicle passing through the border, which in turn help in regulating any irregularities.
The district administration of the Dakshina Kannada district has been instructed to prepare an action plan on inter-state border security at all the twenty crossings between Karnataka and Kerala.
Along with Dakshina Kannada district Kodagu, Mysuru and some parts of Chamarajanagar district also share their border with Kerala.
