Bengaluru: The city police, on Thursday, seized close to 10 kgs of ganja from two youths in the city after nabbing them for allegedly selling the banned substance near National College in Jayanagar.
The police have identified the accused as Arun, 22, a resident of Shakambarinagar in the city and Shahbuddin, 20, a resident of Kolar.
According to the police, Arun would allegedly peddle ganja near colleges and in slums in the city.
Arun would reportedly source ganja from Shahbuddin. Shahbuddin has not completed SSLC and his family is allegedly part of a network of supplying narcotics, the police said.
The arrests on Thursday, follow three other such cases booked in a span of a fortnight. This comes in the wake of the city police’s attempt to curb drug abuse among youth in the city.
Recently, at a BBMP council meet, councillors had raised the issue of rampant narcotics usage by youth near educational institutions. The city police have also launched a toll free number (1908) exclusively for reporting such cases.
