Bengaluru: Even though the BJP and a few pro-Hindu organisations had threatened to hold protests, the Tipu Jayanti celebrations across the state were held peacefully. Not a single incident of violence has been reported from any part of the state so far.
According to the sources in the state police, except for Kodagu, no bandhs or protests were reported from any part of the state. “Even in the BJP strongholds, including Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru, there were no incidents protests or violence. In Kodagu, a bandh called by the pro-Hindu organizations and supported by the BJP was held successfully without violence,” said a senior police officer.
“Police have made elaborate security arrangements across the state to ensure that anti-social elements will not take the law into their own hands in the name of Tipu Jayanti. In Kodagu, even though the BJP called for a protest, the public response was very poor,” he said.
