Bengaluru: Three workers met with their tragic end when centering iron rods of an under construction gas production dome collapsed, early on Monday morning, in Nagawara, opposite Lumbini Gardens in the city.
The work for the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board’s (BWSSB) water treatment plant was on and at 11.15 am the mishap occurred killing the workers on the spot. Six injured workers have been admitted in the ICU.
Fire officials, NDRF and SDRF teams who rushed to the spot managed to rescue around 23 labourers working there. Three of them couldn’t be saved, including the site engineer, reported TNIE.
Most of the workers are from West Bengal. While an FIR is yet to be registered, contractors’ negligence could be the reason, say many.
Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board Chairman Tushar Girinath has said that action will be taken against BWSSB officials too in connection to the case. The said Rs 360 crore project is expected to be ready by 2020.
Amruthahalli Police is investigating.
